The Town Poem

Walt: write a memoir inspired by James K Baxters "The Town"

The town was usual enough; it had
A cinema, many gyms, a few restaurants, an uneven Terrain throughout, and even some buskers along the path. My friend and I did what mischievious Kids do - chill on the benches,
buy some junk food, and dodge the crazy people trying to give us hugs, dashing like pro athletes amongst clothes in stores without a sound, finally leaving and peacefully reading in the library or just walking around being nosey.
Doing nothing important.

Duffy theater writing - moment in time

The Dismantler
Boom, thud hey why did you break my spiral staircase. Whenever the Dismantler sees construction she destroys it. Inconveniently Duffy is wearing a muscle suit that looks like bricks so the Dismantler is trying to destroy him. “Quick go into a ball she won’t destroy anything that isn’t the shape of a rectangle or a square.” Few I am safe maybe I should change skins man all that’s left is this yellow thing, oh well it will have to do. Hello, fluffy chicken ah no I am Duffy oh ok hello Duffy chicken. Says the Dismantler.

Explaining how to play netball.

Explaining how to play netball.

Netball is a really enjoyable game that is played all around the world. This particular sport can be quite competitive and can also be a pretty active game played mainly on outdoor courts measuring 30.5 meters long, 15.25 meters wide. Teams will have different amounts of players depending on the year groups of the competitors.

This sport involves having three positions, attack, defence, and my personal favourite centre. There must be two players for each position, with subs if you are lucky. Attack and defence are pretty similar but only the attacks can score. This is where defence and attack are similar as they can both only go on two-thirds of the court. Centres can go anywhere except for the shooting circle. When defending you must be at least a meter away from the player that is in control of the ball.

All players are not allowed to move with the ball because that would be called stepping. You can only pivot which is when one foot is on the ground and you use the other foot to turn yourself around to make it easier to pass to your other team members. You must pass the ball down to the hoop that your team is shooting in. After passing the ball, you run to try and catch the ball again. The team with the most points wins. The attacks must be in the shooting circle to be able to score points.

There are many penalties in this sport, the main ones are, stepping, obstruction, contact, and replay. Stepping is when you lift your feet off the ground while the ball is in your hands. Obstruction is if you are defending too close to the player with the ball. Contact is when you touch one of the other players while trying to defend. Replay is when either you bounce the ball then receive it again, or if you try to shoot a goal and it misses the hoop completely and you catch it again.

Netball is a very fun game that anyone can play whether they just want to get fit or even just have a good time, anyone can play. Netball is a sport that you can play in any weather and still have fun, except for in conditions like tornado, hail or thunder and lightning.

Speech 2019

Topic.

Kids can help protect the earth, can't they?

Introduction.

Us kids and our future children are the ones that are going to be more affected by this problem. So listen up and I can tell you how we can help look after our precious home. Every day more and more we are abusing our planet and it needs to stop NOW.

Pollution.

We may not think that pollution is much of a problem in New Zealand but it definitely is in other countries and there are a bunch of options to help solve that problem. They may not completely stop it but it could easily help. We need to reduce the amount of plastic in supermarkets somehow don't we? Taking your own containers or reusable bags for meat and delicatessen items is a good idea. KFC in Kaitaia is now forbidding plastic straws if you are eating in. One big problem is that there is way too much plastic in this world that we can so easily make into biodegradable items. If we did that not only would it be better for papatuanuku but it would also be better for all animals and any living creatures. Another dilemma is something that's done pretty much every day when we are cooking. You can't deny that most of us here all tip our cooking fat down the sink. But what if I told you that by doing this you are badly polluting our waters, so what can we do about it? We all know that as kids we love being messy and creative. Kids can decorate an old jar and get it all messy. After cooking, tip all the cooking fat into the jar after and dispose of it in the solid waste when the jar is full. Or make a very useful compost heap and try to use the garbage disposal as less as possible for vegetables and leftovers. Conserving our energy is something that will really help. By doing this we pollute the air more and more. We could all turn off lights when we don't need them turned on. Use as many windows as possible for natural light. Try using more energy-efficient appliances if you have darker rooms and not many windows around the house.

Deforestation

Deforestation is a big problem as so many of our forests have been cleared. With all of the technology nowadays we could definitely use a whole lot less paper every day. Remember unless you are allergic to vegetables, (which I highly doubt) You can always try to eat more vegetarian meals so that people don't have to clear forests for farming animals. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean you can't eat them.

Marine life

Some of our nearby bays and beaches have had rahui put in place in order to protect our animals and other te ora o te Moana (life of the sea.)if we made other locations protected I think it would make a big difference on the population of sea animals. Another way to make this number increase would be to use lots more eco-friendly components, tote, and hemp bags when shopping or carrying items throughout the day. Make sure we do not by any ivory as we all should know that these items have come from animals that had to suffer just for us to have jewelry and unique items. Please encourage others not to by ivory and explain why we should never purchase any of it.

Conclusion.

Remember that we can not bring back extinct animals. we cannot save animals that have died because of pollution. There is a slight chance of us saving sick and dying animals. The things we do every day are killing the earth. We live on this planet so if we keep abusing it we are only going and abusing ourselves. If you truly love your family then you definitely would not be littering as much as you do. Do we really have to be so parsimonious and cruel to our fragile home? I really hope that by listening to me you will have second thoughts the next time you want to litter. Please don't do such unpleasant things to our precious home.

Te Reo Comic Strip

WALT: Make a quality comic strip while extending our Te Reo vocabulary list. We were doing this by asking and answering questions in Te Reo. We also needed to be able to translate the words and have a clear understanding.

The part I enjoyed the most about making this would be choosing the perfect characters and the background images. The hardest part was making sure each character was inline with the characters in the other squares. The most important thing to do was to make sure the Reo was correct.

Ahipara beach education day.

EQUIPMENT THAT WE USED:

We all pace round and round the concrete ramp trying to find the perfect spot to stand and observe, just to be told that we need to stand on the grass to be able to see and understand everything about the first piece of equipment, the kneeboard. The kneeboards can only fit one lifeguard and one other patient with them at a time. Whereas the IRB (Inflatable Rescue Boats) can hold two lifeguards and up to four patients. The IRB’s have spare oars because Who knows maybe when they are going to save someone that's near rocks, they can’t go too close to the rocks as they may pop the boat. So they have to use them or to reach out to the patient and pull them towards the boat and pull them up.

THE HARDEST PART:

The first thing we had to do was try to run in the water without tripping over and face planting.
This was going to definitely be tricky, I said in my head one hundred times over and over. We had to lift our legs up and over at the height of just above our waist.
Straight away as we ran into the water in this particularly weird way I tripped and face planted and had sand all over my face and body, somehow it even was all in my hair from roots to tips.

Report Writing Bottlenose Dolphin

Report writing

Elly Broughton

The scientific name for bottlenose dolphins are “tursiops”.
HABITAT:

Bottlenose dolphin are only really found in more temperate and tropical waters. They are normally found around 20 miles offshore in harbor’s bays and lagoons. I myself have only ever seen bottlenose dolphin in warmer waters for example in between Hohaura and Rangiputa. I have also seen a few pods of these dolphins in Fiji.

PREDATORS:

The main predators to Bottlenose dolphins are different types of sharks and orcas. The main types of sharks are tiger, dusky and bull sharks. Orcas are also really high on their predator list and you wouldn’t really think so as orcas are just larger dolphins.

they are very fast animals but can still be overtaken easily and captured by their threats.

DIET-PREY:

These dolphins never chew their food with there teeth. They have big throats and it allows them to swallow their kai in one piece. They really like crustaceans, shrimp and squid. Occasionally they munch on king fish and smaller fish. Adult bottlenoses usually eat between fifteen and thirty pounds a day. These dolphins are really fast and strong swimmers and can easily catch their prey but their predators can also still catch them.

BREEDING:

Female dolphins are pregnant for up to twelve months.

They only give birth to a single calf once every three years. These calves are not born head first but tail first to ensure the calf does not drown. The female normally becomes pregnant when she is six to thirteen years old and will give birth in spring and summer. Dolphins can live up to the age of forty which gives them plenty of time to reproduce.

POPULATION:

There is a large amount of dolphins left, approximately six hundred thousand. They are very safe and are nowhere near extinction or becoming endangered.

You will see these dolphin for a long time and will not have to worry about them.

UNIQUE FEATURES:

These unique dolphins have the best mouth as they are curved mouths making it look like they are always smiling. They have very smooth and rubbery textured skin with the mixture of black, white and gray all over there bodies. They have exactly two hundred and fifty teeth if they are all there and healthy.

WEIGHT:

The common bottlenose dolphins weigh around 150 kgs to 160 kgs. However, the Indo pacific bottlenose weighs around 290 kgs. Calf bottlenose are born as heavy as 14 to 18 kgs. Males are scientifically born larger and heavier. The fully grown bottlenose are around half the size of an.

LENGTH:

The common bottlenose are measured at two to four metres long. Where as the Indo pacific bottlenose are measured at two point six metres long. The Burrunan

Bottlenose how ever are two point three to two point eight metres long. these are some of the longest dolphins in the world.

ripper skills

                                Ripper Skills

                                    1.3.18

One of our coaches,Hayley blew her whistle and that means that time for our team get off the side line and give it our best.Sometimes the scorching sun would come out from behind the clouds, it would blaze above us, I could feel the sweat building up inside ready to burst out.Whenever I was running fast and hard,I was exhausted so easily. Our two amazing coaches were cheering us on the whole way, “keep going” Joshie roared. If anyone from the other team were coming towards us we would all side step to avoid and dodge everyone one the composing team. My legs and knees were aching as I kept going to the best of my ability. I thought that this was going to be awful, but really this was the most amusing game of ripper I had ever experienced, who would have thought.

Swim Safe With Whaea Ronda

Swim safe with whaea Ronda
20.2.19
Sidestroke
With the technique of side stroke I would be able to breath easily because I am lying on my side and still be able to move through the water fast enough.
The position for side stroke is really easy, all you have to do is float on your side and rest your head on your arm that is stretched out in front of you.
You also need to bring your arm towards the arm in front and back towards your legs that would be doing the scissor kick, so that you don't get tired.

moment in time-navy frigate-ahoy waitangi

MOMENT IN TIME
NAVY FRIGATE
Splash! We were off, all ready I was feeling sick and a little bit disorientated.
Woohoo”! Everyone was having the time of their life… but me. I kept thinking I was about to fall off and that it would be the end for me. The Rhib boat started to move towards the main Navy frigate and the giant swell was slamming against us.
All of a sudden crew members were firing water at us making my shoes flood with an abundance of water and causing my hands to slip right off the handle in front of me.
Yuck”! This salt water tastes disgusting.
I was sliding around on my seat as I realised this was actually really amusing.

The hardest part was probably trying to think of an example that I could easily use for all three ways of writing them down
I hope you enjoyed it.
Thank you.
